Mr. Speaker, I rise today with a sense of overwhelming gratitude and admiration for my longtime district director, Ms. Anita Taylor, as she celebrates her retirement. For more than two decades, from my days as a member of the New York City Council to my tenure in the House of Representatives, Anita has stood by my side, devoted to the cause of selflessly serving the people of the Ninth District of New York, the beloved community that we call home. As my district director, she has never failed to rise on behalf of those who need her aid or just her listening ear and wise counsel.

It has been 13 days since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act of 1965, opening the door to a coordinated attack on Black political power and fair representation across the South.
Biography
Yvette Clarke, the daughter of Jamaican immigrants and a former community development advocate, was elected to represent New York’s 9th Congressional District in 2006. In Congress, she prioritizes affordable housing, immigration reform, and cybersecurity. Clarke co-authored the DREAM Act and serves as a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, shaping national policy on technology and telecommunications. Known for her responsive leadership, she works closely with Brooklyn’s diverse communities to address local and national challenges with determination and inclusivity.
