Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize one of my constituents, Will Plunkett, who was recently selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2026 Major League Baseball draft. Will graduated from Mamaroneck High School this spring, where he led the baseball team to the Section 1 championship as the starting shortstop. During his senior season, Will had nearly a .500 batting average, hitting 6 home runs, knocking in 28 RBIs, and stealing 23 bases.

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to call attention to the long- term financial outlook of Social Security. According to the Social Security Administration, the Social Security trust fund will be able to pay full benefits only until the end of 2032. Social Security is a lifeline that lifts seniors, widows, and dependent children out of poverty. If Congress does not act to fix this problem, over 3.3 million New Yorkers will be affected by future benefit cuts, with the average retiree in New York seeing their benefits reduced by more than $500.
Mr. Speaker, in New York and across the country, we are in an affordable housing crisis. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, a household in the New York City region making the median income would need to spend 65 percent of their income to afford the average home. No family should have to spend over one-half of their income on housing. That is why, this week, I introduced the Home Mortgage Interest Credit Act and the Senior Accessible Housing Tax Credit Act.
