Steve Cohen Biography
Steve Cohen grew up in Memphis and built his career as a civil rights attorney before entering public service. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee’s 9th District in 2006, Cohen is known for advancing criminal justice reform, expanding access to voting rights, and protecting civil liberties. He authored the first federal bill to eliminate the sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine, and serves as a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee. Cohen approaches his work with a deep commitment to representing Memphis’s diverse communities and advocating for fairness in the justice system.
