Mr. President, I rise today to speak about the future of college athletics and American student-athletes. Congress is being asked to take action to save college sports. Well, as we consider what we need to do to save college sports, we better make sure that we are focused on saving it for American student- athletes. For generations, college sports have become a part of culture, particularly in a State like Ohio. A lot of States love their college sports.

You heard that correctly--a thousand data centers within the next 5 years, with more than 2,000 projects currently being proposed and tracked. We need to protect American ratepayers from footing the bill. The clock is ticking, and we have no time for delay. Americans are becoming ever more reliant on computing power from data centers for their daily lives--from medicine to manufacturing, education to agriculture, and national defense to the way we deliver basic services.
Madam President, I am going to take us back 100 years to August 5, 1926. It was in the midst of the Roaring Twenties. Calvin Coolidge was the President. Babe Ruth was ruling professional baseball. There was no television. Horses and cars shared the streets together. Life expectancy was 57 years. The Great Depression was still off in the future. On August 5, 1926, a remarkable person was born, and I want to recognize him today. He is a World War II veteran and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Jon Husted began his career as a community development manager before entering public service. Elected as Ohio’s Lieutenant Governor in 2018, he has focused on expanding broadband access, modernizing workforce training, and fostering technology-driven economic growth across the state. Husted led the creation of Ohio’s InnovateOhio initiative, streamlining government services through digital transformation, and co-chaired the Governor’s Executive Workforce Board. He serves Ohio by promoting practical solutions that leverage technology to improve job opportunities and government efficiency for residents.
