In 10 years, the deficit will be greater than every penny spent by the Federal Government between 1789 and 2023. As we celebrate our 250th, this is the time to reflect on it and to focus on it. I am going to share something tonight that is going on every single day, specifically about trying to find the opportunity for deficit reduction.

Mr. Speaker, as I was mentioning, there is no question that we have a major issue in front of us. Over the last 18 months, I have gone back home and had a chance to share a lot of the specifics as to the gains that we are making from the reductions. I want to just highlight some of this. Our Federal debt continues to grow unsustainably, and major trust fund programs face looming insolvency. To add insult to injury here, there is rampant fraud across our country.
Mr. Speaker, today, I rise to honor the three fallen firefighters who tragically died this past weekend while fighting fires in Utah. Emily Barker, Nick Hutcherson, and Sydney Watson died during an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires, which are among several fires burning in our State right now. I am praying for their families and those close to the impacted areas. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten. I am grateful to the many first responders working tirelessly to protect us.
Biography
Blake Moore, a former foreign service officer, brings diplomatic experience and a commitment to public service to his role as U.S. Representative for Utah’s 1st District, first elected in 2020. Moore focuses on strengthening national defense, improving federal fiscal responsibility, and supporting Utah’s outdoor economy. He has served on the House Armed Services and Budget Committees, where he advocated for military readiness and deficit reduction. Moore authored legislation to expand access to public lands and championed measures to streamline federal spending. He is known for his pragmatic approach, working to deliver results that reflect the values and priorities of northern Utah.
