Mr. Speaker, I also rise today in support of the Water Resources Development Act, and I personally thank Ranking Member Larsen, Chairman Graves, and the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee for their important work on this legislation. I particularly thank Chairman Graves. I have served on the committee for four terms, and he has always been a sincere bipartisan partner. That is very much appreciated. My home State of Arizona has faced more than a quarter century of drought. Water stewardship and conservation are a core part of our culture.

Mr. Speaker, I rise in support of H.R. 1342, the Stopping Political Discrimination in Disaster Assistance Act, introduced by Representative Perry. This bill amends a nondiscrimination provision of the Robert T. Stafford Act to prohibit political discrimination in the administration of FEMA assistance. I could not agree more: Politics has no place in disaster assistance. Unfortunately, President Trump has weaponized disaster declarations, rewarding States that voted for him and punishing those that did not. Sadly, the numbers tell the story.
Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the life and legacy of George Dean, a pillar of our Arizona community, who passed away last week at the age of 88. George led the Greater Phoenix Urban League for more than three decades, serving as its president and CEO. He worked tirelessly to make a real difference in the lives of Arizonans, creating pathways to jobs, to education, and to homeownership. He did it all while remaining a steadfast voice for civil rights and economic opportunity. Now, I had the proud honor of working with George, seeing his great work firsthand for many years.
Biography
Greg Stanton began his career as a civil rights attorney, advocating for fair housing and equal opportunity in Arizona. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Arizona’s 4th District in 2018, he has prioritized expanding infrastructure, defending voting rights, and addressing water sustainability in the Southwest. Stanton played a central role in advancing bipartisan water conservation legislation and serves on the House Judiciary and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees. He is recognized for forging pragmatic solutions that address the complex needs of his rapidly growing district.
